It might be easy to think of
Sawyer International Airport as just another Upper Peninsula airport, but a recent recognition from the Michigan Association of Airport Executives makes it clear that the airport manager isn't just another manager.
Keith Kaspari, Sawyer's airport manager, was named Airport Manager of the Year by the association at their annual banquet in September in Bellaire.
The award is given each year to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the development of their airport, and, further, to aviation in their community.
"Keith has been an advocate of Michigan aviation, especially for the airports in the Upper Peninsula, and his tireless efforts toward the development of Sawyer International Airport, and combined with his legislative advocacy for increasing aviation funding for MDOT's State Aeronautics Fund made him an easy choice for the award," says Brian Picardat of the association.
Kaspari not only manages the airport, but works with local community groups, advisory boards, economic development initiatives, and state and national groups to advance the airport and the community.
