There's a new OB/GYN in Escanaba and he's passionate about what he does on a daily basis.
Michael DeGroot, originally of Norway, Mich., recently accepted a position with
OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba as a member of its OB/GYN staff. DeGroot loves his job, though he can't really tell you what, specifically, he likes the most.
"I like the entire field," he says. "Everything about it: delivering babies, taking care of moms, doing surgery. Now it's especially nice to be practicing medicine where I grew up."
DeGroot received his medical degree at Rosalind Franklin University/The Chicago Medical School and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology through Michigan State University at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.
Before joining the OSF St. Francis Women's Center, DeGroot practiced for seven years in Ironwood and later moved to Wisconsin to work at the Marshfield Clinic. He is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology and a member of the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology. He is also a member of the Catholic Medical Association and the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians & Gynecologists.
DeGroot and his wife have four grown sons and have a variety of interests--in winter, the couple enjoys snow-shoeing and cross-country skiing; in summer, it's gardening and hiking.
