Talon Research president elected to new bridge preservation board

A Hancock businessman has been voted onto the board of directors for a brand-new egional partnership focusing on bridge preservation.

Jay Ruohonen is president of Talon Research, Inc. of Hancock. Talon is a mechanical engineering and design firm, and developed the BridgeGuard system to detect problems in concrete decks of bridges that aren't readily visible on the surface.

Talon Research is part of the MTEC SmartZone, and was launched in 2007.

Ruohonen was elected to the Board of Directors of the Midwest Bridge Preservation Partnership, at the group's inaugural meeting in October in Detroit.

He says the partnership provides a great opportunity to work on improving the regional and national infrastructure.

"Talon Research is proud to be working with such a group of bridge professionals and to give input and insight to such an important topic as our nation's infrastructure. Our goal in this partnership is to improve safety and strengthen public confidence in our public highway system," Ruohonen says.

The partnership is one of four regional forums throughout the country established by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials. Other members are bridge researchers, transportation agencies, industry and universities.
