Unemployment seminar in the Sault on April 29

If unemployment insurance is one of those mysterious aspects of business you're not quite sure about, answers are coming in a series of April seminars from the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency.

U.P. employers in Marquette, Houghton and Sault Ste. Marie will have a chance to attend one of the seminars, which are becoming an annual event.

"This will be the fourth year that we offer these seminars, which have proven to become quite popular among employers throughout the state," says Stephen Geskey, director of the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency.

Early registration is suggested for the sessions, which are in the last week in April. They are conducted by UIA staff and include how unemployment benefits are calculated and charged to employers, how employers can qualify for a state tax credit, how to fill out all the right forms, and how to use the agency's online services.

"These sessions cover the areas of Michigan's unemployment insurance tax and benefit programs that employers most often have questions about," Geskey says. "They also discuss recent changes at the agency and, of course, offer plenty of time for answering employer questions."

The all-day sessions are April 26 in Marquette, April 27 in Houghton, and April 29 in Sault Ste. Marie.

Registration is available online, and questions can be directed to the agency by email.
