One of the Upper Peninsula's leading utility providers has received a national ranking as one of the best corporate citizens in the country.
Wisconsin Energy Corporation has been listed among the 100 best corporate citizens in the U.S., the fourth consecutive year it's been so honored. The rankings come from
Corporate Responsibility Magazine, which evaluates about 1,000 companies nationwide each year. They have to meet standards in environmental performance, employee relations, philanthropy, finance and governance to make the list.
"We're very pleased to again receive this honor," says Gale Klappa, chairman, president and CEO of Wisconsin Energy. "It underscores our commitment to transparency, accountability, customer satisfaction and helping to create brighter futures in the communities we serve."
Wisconsin Energy was placed 47th on the list of 100 companies.
The magazine also ranked Wisconsin Energy among the top-rated companies in the more specific category of corporate governance, the third time it's been rated in that category.
Wisconsin Energy is based in Milwaukee, and serves more than 1.1 million electric customers in Wisconsin and the U.P., through its utility We Energies.
Other companies recognized on the list include Hewlett Packard, IBM, Coca Cola, Pepsi, Microsoft, Kimberly Clark, Walmart, Verizon, 3M, and UPS. You can see the whole list online at the magazine's website.
