Terry Terry, owner of Old Town's Message Makers, is using a warehouse he’s renovating as a catalyst to clean up the 300 block of North Street.
“The notion is that the area is kind of blighted,” Terry says. “There’s junk cars and buses and other broken stuff on the street. Some of it’s been cleaned up, some of it has not. It’s our intention to do some nice landscaping and painting.”
Terry also wants to renovate his 10,000 square foot warehouse, which needs some work to attract new businesses, he says. Several businesses are already on the commercial site.
Terry’s also fixing up a house on the east corner of North Street and Turner Street and turning it into office space.
“The long term goal is to develop plans and put in some additional streetscape and commercial at the street level and some residential above,” he says.
Terry estimates that he and his investors will have some drawings for the project in about a month.
“Our thought is that it will really help that entire surrounding area,” he says. “It’s a really beat up part of the street. Maybe other properties will sell and we’ll get some more activity there.”
