The Westside Lansing business community is rallying its troops and forming a business alliance that’s geared toward increasing business activity and development on Lansing’s Westside.
“The primary goal is economic development,” says Jessica Yorko with the NorthWest Initiative about the budding Westside commercial association. “It’s really structured to be supported by the business community.”
The concept behind the commercial association was borrowed from Lansing’s Old Town Commercial Association (OTCA) model. The OTCA has been extremely successful at building relationships between businesses and the community to foster economic growth.
“We saw that model as being pretty successful for creating an organizational structure,” Yorko says.
Yorko says they hope to divide the Westside into sections so the businesses and community members in each section can focus on bringing up their specific area of the Westside.
