The $600,000 final phase of the East Lansing Soccer Complex is complete, resulting in additional field lights, spectator seating, player bench areas, a team shelter, press boxes and an admissions booth.
The City of East Lansing started the Abbott Road project 10 years ago with the goal of putting together a complex that could be used by the many school, club and recreational soccer teams in the area.
“The city leaders, years ago, decided with the soccer complex, in addition to a number of other recreational amenities, that it was important to invest in the quality of life options for families in East Lansing,” says city Director of Parks and Recreation, Timothy McCaffrey.
The city also put in concessions, a restroom building and added walkways to the complex.
The city and East Lansing Public Schools worked together to get the complex up and running. Though the finishing touches have been put on the complex, the city is still engaged in a fundraising campaign to pay for some of the renovations.
