Aegis Bleu, a young software security technology company, has agreed to lease 3,000 to 4,000 square feet of space in Lansing's Information Technology Empowerment Center (ITEC) in the city's renovated Holmes Street School.
“A lot could happen in that time and we could be hiring more people, so it’s hard to say how much square footage we’ll need,” says Aegis Bleu's owner, Daniel Young. Young says the renovated school will likely be ready for their arrival at the end of the year. “We expect to have at least four offices. If we can go further than that, we will.”
Aegis Bleu is an infrastructure self-assessment software tool provider. Young started Aegis Bleu in 2005 while doing security assessment for Michigan State University (MSU) and the City of East Lansing. The methods used in the security industry to assess critical infrastructure were convoluted and inaccurate, so Young created the Vulnerability Assessment Security Survey Tool (VASST).
VASST lets multiple people survey a facility and document identified vulnerabilities using a laptop and PDA.
“What we’ve found is that ours works,” Young says of his analytical system. “More and more people are looking at it like, ‘Wow, this is really simple. It just makes sense.'”
Young’s company is a perfect fit for ITEC, which is a new Lansing-based tech hub that will train Lansing children and adults in technology-based fields. It will also offer programs focusing on science, engineering, math, digital media and writing.
