B-Unique Designz owner Brandyn Armstrong has been designing CD covers, fliers, business cards, T-shirts and banners since 2005, and has acquired enough clients to open a shop on Lansing's Westside.
Armstrong recently opened a 1,000 square foot storefront at 3010 West St. Joseph.
Armstrong, who is a graphic design student at Lansing Community College (LCC), started designing CDs and fliers for local rappers. Now he has a wide range of
clients including Lansing's Fallen Angel Records, Street Dream Entertainment and Atlantic Records. If you ever park near 621 on Lansing’s Eastside, you might find one of his fliers on your car window.
Armstrong doesn’t have any employees right now, but business is growing.
“I’ve probably doubled my client list in the last two years,” he says. “A lot of people have asked me to intern.”
Armstrong is a Lansing native. His family has a long history in manufacturing. Armstrong says he decided to go out on his own because he saw opportunity in being self-employed.
“A lot of my friends started their own businesses in the last five years and that, to me, is positive,” he says. “I think the future of Lansing is based on people that start up their own businesses. If you don’t invest in yourself, who’s going to?”
