Located at 100 S. Main St. in Leslie, The Children of Christ – Israelite Society resides in one of the most renowned historic buildings downtown. John Stewart, Parson of the Society says the downtown location formerly occupied by the
Ingham County Health Department, is perfect for the new church.
“People are calling and stopping in to see what services are available,” says Stewart.
The Children of Christ – Israelite Society opened in December 2008, offering a place to learn, worship and read.
“We have a prayer room, a reading room and we offer [services similar to other] local churches such as weddings, memorials and study groups,” says Stewart. “Our reading material, while limited, features our texts, Mary Baker Eddy’s writings, as well as Biblical Books.”
Stewart has lived in the Leslie area since 1993 and says most of the writings the Israelites use to express their religious beliefs were written by the founders of the House of David, located in Benton Harbor, Mich. Many original texts and handouts can be found in the church’s reading room.
