Cedar Street School Rehab Project Gets $428,322 Boost

The $4.1 million renovation of the Cedar Street school in Old Town Lansing just got a financial boost from the City of Lansing, which has set aside $428,322 in local and school tax capture for the renovation of the school.

Carla Guggenheim and Gail Shafer are completely renovating the building, which hasn’t been occupied in more than 20 years. Guggenheim is an internist and doctor of osteopathic medicine and Gail Shafer-Crane is an occupational therapist.

When the project is complete, the first floor of the building will include retail space and the second floor will include a medical office and physical therapy facilities. The third floor and roof will house a fitness center. The total space will be expanded from 13,000 square feet to 20,000 square feet.

The 13,000 square foot Cedar Street school renovation is expected to garner a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) ranking.
