A proposed $115 million, mixed-use development in the heart of East Lansing’s downtown is inching closer to becoming actual bricks and mortar.
The City of East Lansing is in the midst of acquiring the 6.31 acres of land near the northwest corner of Grand River Avenue and Abbot Road needed to start
construction on the project this fall.
Deemed the City Center II development, the project will include five new buildings, condos, retail, office space, restaurants and parking.
“It will provide an additional variety of housing options in the downtown area,” says Darcy Schmitt with the City of East Lansing’s planning department. “We currently have single family homes in the downtown area and some apartments, but these would be new, higher-end apartments.”
The development will also foster economic growth by attracting more residents and visitors into the downtown, she says.
