Liquid Web’s first Cloud Computing Data Center is now open. The 90,000 square foot facility has the capacity to hold 600 employees and 25,000 servers.
“This is even more than a grand opening,” says Travis Stoliker, spokesman for Liquid Web. “We have turned an empty warehouse into a state of the art data center.”
An $80 million investment, the Delta Township-based Cloud Computing Data Center includes upgraded power systems, generator backups and uninterrupted power supplies (UPS).
The Cloud Computing Data Center represents a new product Liquid Web is preparing to launch. Cloud computing essentially allows companies to provide hosted materials to clients over the Internet. An example would be Google docs, which allows users to create and share documents over the web, eliminating the back and forth hassle of emails.
“Instead of having individual files on a computer, you can put it on the ‘cloud’ — or the Internet — and it kind of takes care of it,” he says.
The 90,000 square foot facility is divided into a 50,000 square foot data center and 40,000 square feet for staff. The facility is expected to accommodate company growth for the next four years. Liquid Web currently has 150 employees, but that number is expected to jump to 600 within four years.
“We’re currently hiring, and we’ve hired 13 people within the last 30 days,” Stoliker says. “We’re projecting to hire 10-15 people every month until January or February of 2010.”
This is Liquid Web’s third data center in the Capital region. The new product will be released within the next couple of months.
The grand opening for the facility is at noon, Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 2703 Ena Dr.
