Deckers Coffee Co. Percolates Lansing Downtown Development Frenzy

Jessica Decker's self-named coffee shop opened in downtown Lansing in May, creating a buzz for their lattes and breakfast sandwiches ever since. The new 1,800 square foot Decker Coffee Co. is located in the heart of downtown at 220 S. Washington Square.

"I've always wanted to do something downtown," Decker said. "I'm really interested in the new development down here. South Washington is kind of the spot to be right now."

Easily recognizable by the colorful outdoor patio space she has carved out of the busy downtown sidewalk scene, Decker has plenty of seating both inside and outside. Along with the patio space out front, she also added a faux living room in the back of the store.

Decker says she serves the freshest coffee in town, roasting the beans fresh each week. She  also whips up sandwiches, smoothies and an array of baked goods, many of which she bakes herself. She likes to constantly rework her recipes and invent new coffee drinks, and has plenty of holiday creations ready for the chilly months ahead. As the days cool down, she will  also introduce soup to the menu.

It took Decker six months to gut and remodel the old home of Frisbee's restaurant. She keeps the walls decorated with the work of local artists, and currently has six employees.
