Delta Township Seeks LEED Certification for New 30,000 Sq Ft Library

The newly completed, 30,000 square foot, $7.5 million library in Delta Township will likely receive a minimum of a silver LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

“We feel we’re really close to a gold certification, but we feel very comfortable with silver,” says Richard Watkins with Delta Township. The township is the midst of applying for the certification, but Watkins says he doesn’t know when they’ll get news on the building’s certification level.

Some of the building’s green features include voltage lights, landscaping that doesn’t require irrigation, and sealant and adhesives that are low in contaminates. This will be the first LEED-certified building Delta Township owns.

“The township board and the library board are both very concerned about green initiatives and energy issues and they were just committed to doing this,” Watkins says. “This just fits into that concept.”
