$4.2 Million DEQ Grant Clears Way for Lansing Riverfront Development

The City of Lansing has received $4.2 million grant from the state Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) for the cleanup and development of the Downtown Lansing riverfront.

Of the $4.2 million, $3.2 million comes form the Clean Michigan Initiative (CMI) and will be used for riverfront improvements on the east side of the river next to the Ottawa Street Power Station redevelopment. The Accident Fund is redeveloping the site and moving its headquarters to the old Board of Water & Light building. The redevelopment is expected to cost $182 million.

The remaining $1 million will be used to clean up the brownfield site on the current Lansing City Market site, which is being developed by Pat Gillespie. Gillespie plans to create a new outdoor market on the riverfront site as part of a $24 million Market Place development project.
