One of the new breakfast mainstays on the Southside of Lansing has expanded into the catering market and continues to see day-to-day business grow.
In April, Hometown Diner owner Sharon Wedge opened the doors of her 2,000 square foot shop. Business was good through the spring, but slowed a little as Lansing residents headed up north during the summer.
“We already have seen more of an increase in business,” she says, adding that the end of August was “slam, cram busy.”
Wedge owned a cleaning company before opening the Hometown Diner, which is on Pennsylvania near the Lansing Board of Water and Light. The Hometown used to be a popular Sparty’s Coney Island.
“I moved here because I knew Sparty’s was here and they had been very, very successful,” she says. As her venture has grown, Wedge has expanded into the catering business as well.
“I use high quality, top of the line food and produce and keep it reasonably priced,” she says. Wedge says if all goes well, she’ll look into expanding into Downtown Lansing.
