Land Bank Spends $200,000 to Clear Out Old Dollar Nightclub

After years of debate over what to do with the dilapidated Dollar Nightclub building on Michigan Avenue in East Lansing, the Ingham County Lank Bank decided to invest $200,000 to knock it down and make way for a future development.

The Dollar Nightclub has been closed for two years. Erik Schertzing, with the Ingham County Land Bank, says tearing down the old building could be a real economic opportunity for the city.

“This corridor could be a lot more than it is,” Schertzing says of the Michigan Avenue corridor, which links East Lansing and Lansing. Schertzing is hopeful that the vacant piece of property will be turned into a mixed-use development. Other mixed-use developments on that portion of Michigan Avenue have done well.

The $200,000 investment also includes asbestos removal, which was required for the demolition of the 10,000 square foot building.

Schertzing says he’s hoping to find economic incentives that will encourage a developer to take on the project.
