Lansing Using $3.2 Million Grant for Grand River Enhancements

The City of Lansing is developing a $3.2 million enhancement plan that will include aesthetic improvements to the Grand River in downtown Lansing.

The city’s using a Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Clean Michigan Initiative (CMI) grant to pay for the improvements.

This is the first time Lansing has been able to use a CMI grant. Before using a CMI grant, cities have to develop a plan to make public infrastructure improvements related to economic development along a riverfront. The planned City Market, amphitheatre and improvements being made to the former Board of Water & Light building meet this requirement.

Bob Trezise, with the Lansing Economic Development, says the improvements will enhance all of the developments planned for the riverfront.

“With good economic development, you don’t want to settle on one project,” Trezise says. “Immediately you want to build an environment around it.”
