Janine Lee is one of several business owners that have been filling up storefronts on Grand Ledge’s main drag.
Several months ago, Lee opened Classic Interiors, a residential furniture upholstery business at 209 N. Bridge Street.
“I like to find really good old vintage frames that need help and fix them up,” she says.
Lee’s been in the furniture
business off and on since the 1980s. Lee says she loves old things, including the old 209 Bridge building that she and her husband fixed up before she opened Classic Interiors.
“This is the oldest place I’ve ever renovated,” she says. “It’s about 150 years old. Most of the places in Lansing were built in the 1920s.”
During the renovation, Lee uncovered two large stained glass windows that had been covered by a previous owner. She also returned the 13 foot ceiling back to its original height.
“We kind of made it a mix of old and new,” she says. “It’s a little bit contemporary, but we still have a lot of old stuff too.”
Lee also sells local artwork and vintage furniture at her shop.
