$5.2 Million Transforming Outdated MSU Housing Into Green Space

Years ago, Michigan State University (MSU) designed and constructed Spartan Village to accommodate its married student population. However, that population has declined over the years, and now the school is taking $5.2 million and turning the property back into green space.

"Following the second World War we had quite a demand for married student housing," says Fred Poston, vice president for finance and operations at MSU. "Since that time we don't have nearly the demand."

MSU will start demolishing portions of Spartan Village in July. Some of the housing will remain intact. The demolished portion will be replaced by green space by October.
