East Lansing’s popular community center and recreation venue, the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, is undergoing a major renovation and 600 square foot addition.
The former middle school underwent a major renovation in 2001, but that renovation didn’t include updated locker rooms. The Hannah Center's executive director, Elaine Hardy, says the latest renovation will pick up where the 2001 renovation left off.
“The locker room wasn’t a part the original renovation,” she says. “What we’ve
learned from being in business for the last six years is that people want to be comfortable when they come use our fitness facility.”
So, in about a month, Hannah Center members will have a new shower facility that includes private showers, new lockers, new lighting and new tile.
“We want to stay current and competitive with other facilities in town,” Hardy says.
To stay competitive, the center also needs to expand. While the locker rooms are being renovated, the facility will also get 600 square feet of additional space for free weights.
The Hannah Center is a community facility that offers several community fitness and education classes. The entire renovation and expansion should be complete by Labor Day.
