Sparrow Hospital Opens 40,000 Sq Ft Heart and Vascular Center

Sparrow Hospital recently unveiled the 40,000 square foot Sparrow Heart and Vascular Center on the fourth floor of the 10-story Sparrow Tower on Lansing’s Eastside.

“This facility, with its highly advanced technology, places Sparrow among the finest centers anywhere for treatment of diseases of the heart and vascular system,” says Milind Karve, Sparrow Heart and Vascular Center’s medical director. “Operationally, we have moved from separate hospital units into one comprehensive facility. We’re organized around patient needs."

The Sparrow Heart and Vascular Center includes several cutting-edge, high-tech treatments.

Sparrow doctors are qualified to perform a procedure using the Diamondback 360 Orbital Atherectomy System, which is a new way to clear clogged blood vessels using a catheter attached with a tiny, spinning, diamond-coated, crown-shaped disk.

This technology is only available in a handful of hospitals and gives doctors a new option in treating peripheral arterial disease, a life-threatening condition that affects as many as 12 million Americans.

The 40,000 square feet of space include five echocardiogram testing rooms, two nuclear medicine cameras and four stress-test rooms.
