The City of East Lansing is getting ready to open the doors of its 24,000 square foot Technology Innovation Center.
The technology incubator is above Barnes & Noble in downtown East Lansing right across from Michigan State University (MSU). The incubator is expected to attract MSU spinoff companies, other area innovators and MSU students and interns.
The project "will provide a boost to the region’s technology-based economy and offer technology startups and businesses with high-tech, loft-style office space overlooking the beautiful MSU campus and the everyday bustle of East Lansing’s downtown,” says Jim van Ravensway with the City of East Lansing. “It is through these types of innovative projects that we will begin to bolster the mid-Michigan economy and create new jobs for our professional workforce.”
Jeff Smith, also with the City of East Lansing, says the incubator is roughly halfway full. Six of the 15 main offices are reserved. Smith says he doesn’t know if the entire incubator will be full by the October opening, but several businesses have shown interest in the space.
