Linda and Alexander Beal have turned an old Eastside Lansing appliance store into a new, full service day spa.
The Beals hope to open their new business, INNOVA Salon and Day Spa, by the beginning of spring. INNOVA is a full service spa that will offer everything from haircuts and styles to facials and massages.
"I love the vibe of the Eastside," Alexander says. "I hope that in our own little way, we'll inspire others to come to the Eastside."
The Beals moved here from New Jersey, where Linda Beal owned and operated a salon for five years. When the lease option of her former New Jersey location wouldn't allow her to expand her services, the Beals looked toward Alexander's hometown.
"We went to a lot of locations, but this location had everything we wanted," Alexander says. "It has a parking lot and it's a good structure."
The 1606 Michigan Ave. building the Beals renovated looks nothing like it did before they started the renovations in June 2008. They added a third story and expanded the front and back of the building.
INNOVA will be run out of the first floor and the Beals will move into the second and third floors.
"We've always wanted to live above our business," Alexander says. "It's a very old fashioned, European way of life."
