Planned $60 Million Expansion, 800 New Staff at JNL Spark Lansing Tax Deal

The City of Lansing is pulling together a tax sharing agreement with Alaiedon Township to lure insurance company Jackson National Life’s $60 million expansion to the area.

Jackson National is a Lansing-based insurance company that needs to expand to accommodate 800 new employees. Jackson National Life Spokesman Thomas Kelleher says the city’s efforts are paving the way for Jackson National Life to move forward with its expansion plans.

"We are certainly pleased that the process is moving ahead and look forward to seeing the final agreement,” he says.

The agreement would bring 70 acres of property into Lansing from Alaiedon Township and expand the tax sharing agreement with both communities. The proposal is modeled after the original agreement that was first established in 1997 to facilitate the construction of Jackson National’s Lansing headquarters. The agreement makes Lansing a leading contender over Denver for the expansion.

"By going through this process, we've demonstrated that Jackson is committed to staying in Lansing for the long term," Kelleher says.
