The Southside Lansing orthopedic implant manufacturer, Symmetry Medical Jet, is putting together plans to expand its more than 100,000 square foot facility by adding 30,000 square feet.
“In our existing facility we are running out of floor space,” says Symmetry Medical Jet COO, Matthew Rudd. “We have a building proposal to expand this facility.”
Symmetry Medical Jet has long been one of Southside Lansing’s largest employers. More than 400 people work at the Southside division. In 2007, Symmetry Medical Jet added 50 employees. This year the company plans to hire 20 employees.
Rudd says one nice thing about being located in Lansing is that Michigan State University (MSU) is right down the road. Symmetry Medical Jet works with the Fraunhofer USA Center for Coatings and Laser, which is located on the MSU campus.
“Location-wise, that does work out perfectly,” Rudd says.
Rudd anticipates that the expansion will attract up-and-coming engineering talent from the MSU College of Engineering.
