A $1.7 million, 7,000 square foot senior's center is going
up in Delhi Township, replacing an old 4,000 square foot facility.
“It’s looking at the needs of the senior population, not
just today, but out into the future,” says Al McFayden with Delhi Township.
Delhi Township has been trying to find a solution to its outdated and undersized senior center for years. Officials finally decided to
construct a new building on 1.5 acres of land on Cedar Street.
Delhi Township wants the center to include meeting areas,
an area for exercise equipment, classrooms and a computer center. The current
Holt Street facility cannot accommodate all the people who attend classes and
events, says the township's Mark Jenks.
“As this thing gets built and people start realizing its
potential, we think people will start coming up with more ideas and wanting
more activities,” Jenks says.
The project is in its early stages and will go out to bid
this week. McFayden says the center could be completed as early as March 2009.
