Old Town Lansing Welcomes New Art Gallery

For area artists, Old Town Lansing is the place to be. This month, artist and business owner Karen Massoglia added her 1,500 square foot gallery, By the Riverside, to the long list of galleries lining the streets of Old Town.

“We just loved the art and we loved Old Town, and it’s kind of been our mission to be down here and have things that people can afford,” Massoglia says, adding that Old Town is “like going to Cheers — where everyone knows your name.”

By the Riverside, which is located at 1209 Turner St., opened at the beginning of August. The location house the popular October Moon until that shop moved up the street to a larger space.

Massoglia and her business partner, Betsy Garza, repainted the space and textured the walls and ceiling before opening By the Riverside.

“Since it really is ‘by the riverside,’ there’s kind of an outdoorsy theme throughout,” Massoglia says.

The majority of By the Riverside artists are Michigan artists. Massoglia says she’s sold a piece nearly every day since By the Riverside opened.

By the Riverside will have its official grand opening at 1 p.m. Sept. 27.
