Peckham, a Lansing-based organization that helps provide vocational training for area citizens, is putting up an $18 million, 180,000 square foot facility in Lansing.
Peckham broke ground on the new facility, which will be certfiied as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) building, in early November. The space will include 110,000 square feet for manufacturing and 70,000 square feet of office, cafeteria and services space.
The new facility will allow Peckham to expand its many programs that help disabled people find employment. More than 75 percent of Peckham’s staff is disabled.
“The success of our businesses means we can offer more services and more job
opportunities to those who are severely disabled or have other barriers to employment and are striving for independence and self-sufficiency,” says Peckham Spokeswoman Bonnie Zimmerman.
Construction on the facility should be finished by the end of 2008.
