Popular Lansing Science Center Outgrowing Facility, Looks to $7.9 Million Expansion

The Impression 5 Science Center is encouraging citizens to support development that would mean a huge $7.9 million expansion of the center and the Capital Area District Library (CADL).

Impression 5 Science Center Executive Director Erik Larson, says the center’s current facility can’t accommodate the popular Downtown Lansing center’s growth.

“We’re really being restricted by the building,” says Larson.

Impression 5 has raised $1 million for the new center, which would be attached to a new library and would cost $7.9 million.

The proposed 40,000 square feet center would give the center more space for exhibits. The building the center currently occupies is 55,000 square feet, but much of this space is unusable or is occupied by other organizations.

“We’re proud that we’re working harder and becoming the science center that this community deserves and wants,” Larson says.
