Kelly's Downtown Pub Expands to Remodeled 4,100 Square Foot Lansing Space

Downtown Lansing icon, Kelly’s Downtown, is making a big move down the street into a remodeled 4,100 square foot building, which is nearly three times as large as its current space.

Kelly’s Downtown is one of Downtown Lansing’s oldest businesses, and has long been the happy-hour stomping grounds of area politicians and lobbyists. Kelly’s owners Lynne Layher-Burns and Lenny Burns will shut the restaurant down at a date to be determined to move into their new space.

Layher-Burns says she’s noticed a lot of positive changes in Downtown Lansing, including the addition of new businesses.

“The whole rotation is benefiting everybody,” Layher-Burns says about the impact new businesses and restaurants have on her establishment.

Kelly’s new 220 S. Washington Square address will open as soon as possible, but Layher-Burns isn’t sure exactly when she’ll hold the grand opening.

Even though Kelly’s will be bigger, Layher-Burns and Burns will do their best to make it look like the Kelly’s Lansingites have grown to love. They’re taking the windows, decorations and bar from their 203 S. Washington Square location and moving it down the street.

Plenty of neighbors, staff and friends have already offered to help Layher-Burns and Burns move.

“We have so many good friends and regulars who know how hard we worked to get here, so we’ve had a lot of support,” Layher-Burns says.
