$18,000 County Grant Expands Grand Ledge Recycling Program

It may not look like much from the outside, but the addition to the Grand Ledge recycling program is just one additional step in the city’s efforts to make recycling a priority.

The City of Grand Ledge recently used a portion of an $18,000 grant from Eaton County to add polystyrene collections to the program. The money also provides for a moderate expansion of the Grand Ledge/Oneida Recycling Center.

“We have ambitions to expand it as the money allows,” says Grand Ledge Mayor Kalmin Smith. Oneida Township and the City of Grand Ledge also make financial contributions to the program.

The program was expanded in May. Grand Ledge last expanded its recycling program a year ago.

“We started really simple and every couple of years we add something, at least when we have the ability to do it,” Smith says.

The center is located at 401 Whitney St.

“There’s a lot of strong support for expanding the recycling center by the  community, but it’s all about the timing,” Smith says.
