The SCENE Metrospace art gallery recently moved to a new location in downtown East Lansing, closer to the city’s main drag and other art galleries.
SCENE Metrospace hosted a grand opening at the end of October to celebrate its move and $19,000 renovation of its 110 Charles St. location.
When SCENE Metrospace moved from its old Abbot Road address, Director Peter Richards and a group of volunteers got creative and cost-consciously
and took the floor with them. They also added track lights and a moveable stage to the new 1,400 square foot building.
“What really makes us stand out is we’re state of the art,” Richards says. “There are a lot of really great galleries around town, but we really make an effort to be the non-traditional one.”
Aside from supporting local and national artists, SCENE Metrospace also has musicians play in its exhibit room. The SCENE Metrospace music following has grown from getting a few fans to each show to now attracting 80 to 100 people a show.
“We like putting together homegrown artists with artists from all over the place to see the parallel of art,” Richards says.
