Downtown Mason Growth Draws in New Shop

Downtown Mason’s continued growth has attracted yet another new business. Malinda Falardeau, owner of Trellis, recently relocated her five-year-old bead and gift shop down a few blocks from its current location to Mason’s downtown.

“Downtown Mason has come alive,” Falardeau says. “We had lots of empty buildings, but with the exception of two small buildings, we’re just filling up.”

Even though business is good, Falardeau opted to downsize just to get a downtown Mason storefront before they're all gone. Her Columbia Street address was 2,400 square feet, but her new Maple Street location is 1,200 square feet.

“This move required me to downsize, but it’s a prime location, and whatever I have to do, I’ll make it work,” she says.

Falardeau still has enough room to host bead classes in the shop, which are extremely popular among area residents. When they’re done with class, they can check out nearby shops, including the new bookstore (Bestsellers Books), the new deli (the Vault) or the new ice cream shop (Turtle Tom’s Ice Cream).

“Everybody’s excited,” she says about Mason's growing downtown. “Just in the last year, people got excited about it.”
