Lansing's Potter Park Zoo recently opened its 3,100 square foot Eagle Exhibit. The zoo raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to create a new home for its two eagles.
The eagles had been housed in a small cage at the back of the zoo. Now they’re at the front the zoo and have two large tree perches, a pool, a nest and native fauna.
“We are truly grateful for the many families and organizations in our community that helped us bring this amazing new exhibit to life,” says Zoological Society Executive Director Diane McNeil. “This new exhibit will be a wonderful new home for our bald eagles and will enable us to engage more visitors in Potter Park Zoo’s mission of conservation and education.”
The new eagle exhibit has been in the works for more than two years. The Potter Park Zoo has been able to expand several exhibits, including the recently completed river otter and arctic fox exhibit, due in large part to a millage passed in Ingham County.
“I’m sure this will be especially exciting to the people who are regulars here,” McNeil says. “Hundreds of people have donated to this and I’m sure they’ll be thrilled to see it. It’s much more natural looking and they will have a lot more room.”
