Godzilla stomps Lansing in custom comic book cover

Tom Flammer wants Lansing to know that there’s more to comic books than just superheroes.

“So many comic books tell fantastic stories outside the realm of science fiction now,” says Flammer of Clem's Comics & Games of Lansing. He references films such as "Sin City, "V for Vendetta" and "300" as examples of comic book stories that have jumped into the public consciousness as of late.

“I really do believe that if people enjoy any sort of fiction reading or just appreciate quality artwork,” he says, “there is a comic-book reader in every one of us waiting to be stirred.”

In the hopes of doing some of that stirring themselves locally, Clem’s Comics & Games has partnered with IDW Publishing to bring a comic book cover totally unique to Lansing available only at Clem’s. The comic book, titled Godzilla, Kingdom of Monsters #1 will announce the return of Godzilla with one big monster stomping on a very familiar location.

The building crushed below his foot will be Clem’s itself, with none other than the Boji Tower looming in the background.

Lansing is one of 75 cities featured on the comic’s cover. Just 500 copies of the Lansing-themed book will be available.

“We definitely do hope to spark some new interest in comics in Lansing through the collectible nature of this cover,” says Flammer.

Flammer expect to have the custom Godzilla cover on sale on March 30th, at 10am for $3.99 each.
