Greater Lansing Convention and Visitor’s Bureau mobile app wins national award

The Greater Lansing Convention and Visitor’s Bureau mobile application was launched less than a year ago and is now getting some serious national attention. The North American Travel Journalists Association, or NATJA, named the GLCVB’s app the number one mobile travel app in the US.

“To be recognized on a national scale like that is just so exciting and we’re so proud of the accomplishment,” says Tracy Padot, Vice President of Marketing Communications for GLCVB. “It’s not like we were up against smaller destinations. We were competing with the big boys.”

One of those big boys was "San Francisco Restaurants," who took second place in the travel app category.

The GLCVB app includes such features as the bureau’s live Twitter feed, search and find options for destinations and GPS-driven “Nearby Me” utility.

GLCVB was also honored with a second place win in the visitors’ guide category. Unlike the mobile app, the GLCVB’s award-winning visitors’ guide has been a staple of the organization for years.

“The print visitor guide is our traditional marketing piece and our app is our newest feature,” says Padot. “It’s exciting that we’ve been able to marry those two together. We might have a visitor who likes the tried the true method, and another might want to have it all on their Blackberry. Now they can pick and choose whichever they’re most comfortable with.”

The travel app is available for Android, iPhone or BlackBerry and maybe downloaded on the GLCVB’s website.
