$15,397 Grant Helps Secure Downtown Lansing Art Gallery

The Lansing Art Gallery in Downtown Lansing recently received a $15,397 grant from the Power of We Consortium that will help the gallery pay for new personnel, technology upgrades and continuing art classes.

Lansing Art Gallery Executive Director Kathy Babcock says these improvements will help the Gallery stay open for years to come.

“Even though there’s still work to do, we feel very confident we’ll still be here in 40 years,” Babcock says.

The grant is a much-needed financial boost for the gallery, which has seen a steady decline in fundraising dollars. The Gallery used to raise roughly $50,000 a year from proceeds of its annual art auction. However, sales took a dip with the economy, forcing Babcock to cut back on programs and services.

Babcock is confident that the grant will act as a turning point for the gallery.

The grant will also pay for new computers and a new phone system and Gallery-sponsored art programs.
