Lansing Businesses Band Together to Improve MI Ave Corridor

Business owners along Michigan Avenue in Lansing have joined together to create the Avenue of Michigan Business Community. The group's goal is to strengthen the business communities’ relationship with surrounding neighborhoods.

“Our main goal is to work on a master plan for the neighborhood,” says Ruth Bancroft, member of the Avenue of Michigan Business Community and owner of Bancroft Flowers on Lansing's Eastside.

“One of my goals is to make it (the Eastside) a safe, walkable area,” she says.

She says businesses want to work with neighborhood people to make the Michigan Avenue corridor more attractive so more people visit the area. This may include adding flowers, benches and lighting.

“We don’t want to wait five or 10 years,” she says. “We want to do this beautification now.”
