Virtual Marketing Group Links Capital Region Talent With Chicago and Austin

Local entrepreneur and former Publicom employee Mike Van Egeren, recently launched BANG Creative, a digital marketing group operated by Van Egeren and three associates who live in three different states.

The BANG Creative team has been working together for about a year and specializes in all facets of design and marketing. They work from Austin, Chicago and Bath, Mich.

“The Internet has reduced the cost of an awful lot of things,” says Van Egeren, who works from Bath. “Years ago people predicted that there would be a virtual work environment and that really hasn’t happened until now.”

The BANG Creative team tracks and shares everything via Internet. The setup allows clients to make project edits without sending multiple emails back and forth.

“It’s actually better than any brick and mortar agency I’ve ever worked for,” Van Egeren says.

The team recently hosted the third annual CreateAthon for regional nonprofits. The online, 24-hour design, writing and web development project is overseen by more than a dozen collaborators in Lansing, East Lansing, Detroit, Chicago, Austin and Boston. Unlike most creative projects, the non-profit designs were open for public comment and criticism.

Designs were created for Prima Civitas, WKAR, the Arts Council of Greater Lansing, the Capital Area United Way, the Information Technology Empowerment Center (iTEC) and a Chicago-based client of Arc Worldwide, Peace First.

Egeren says the new company is already experiencing growth.

“We have experienced growth within the last year and we haven’t even made a real marketing push,” he says.
