On the eve of its 25th anniversary, Capitol National Bank has $250 million in assets, 79 employees and three local branches, quite a feat for a local Lansing bank that started with just two employees.
“We haven’t gotten greedy,” says Capitol National Bank President Paula Cunningham about the bank's rapid growth. “We don’t go after the billion dollar deals. We work with entrepreneurs, small-and medium-sized businesses and consumers.”
Cunningham says Capitol National’s customers stick around because they get the kind of service that people used to get from their neighborhood bank. Capitol National is located in Downtown Lansing on Washington Avenue and Ottawa Street, with branches in Meridian and Delta Townships.
“It’s a community bank,” she says. “People walk in and know your name. It’s like the old Cheers commercial.”
Cunningham says the bank needs to fill four new positions by the end of the year.
