A new networking group that works for social butterflies and those who suffer from social anxiety disorder launched in Lansing this month.
Capital City Connect lets users set up on-line profiles, but also sets up meetings and events for those who want and have time for face-to-face connections.
Capital City Connect was created in the model of Motor City Connect, a Detroit-based group created several years ago to bring Internet networking and old fashioned meet-and-greet networking together.
“If you look at group sites like LinkedIn, they’re a great place to grow a vast network, but you don’t really get to go deep with anyone,” says Terry Bean, the chief networking officer who developed the “City Connect” concept. “Other face-to-face groups go really deep, but you’re seeing the same people week in and week out, so you’re not really expanding your network.”
More than 30 people showed up to the first Capital City Connect group. Ann Andrews is heading up the Capital City Connect crew.
“Lansing’s the State Capital, so we wanted to go where there are people who are going to be heavily concerned about the state and doing great things for it,” Bean says. “We thought we’d find a welcoming group here.”
The next Capital City Connect meeting is noon, Thursday, Oct. 23 at PF Chang’s in Eastwood Town Center.
