Lansing was recently recognized with a bronze-level award through the
League of American Bicyclists' Spring 2010 Bicycle Friendly Communities (BFC) program. The program recognizes communities that are actively supporting bicycling and providing safe bike accommodations for recreation and transportation.
Only 16 new communities were honored nationwide, with only 140 out of a total of 359 total community applicants receiving a four-year Bicycle Friendly designation.

“The award recognizes the great strides Lansing has made over the last several years in changing policy and infrastructure to become more bike-friendly,” says Rory Neuner, an active member of
Walk and Bike Lansing! and one of the individuals involved in getting Lansing on the list.
“Citizens, community organizations, and the
City of Lansing have worked together the last several years through the Walk and Bike Lansing! task force to implement a number of initiatives.”
Walk and Bike Lansing!—in cooperation with the City—worked together on the BFC application this winter.
“I hope this [award] raises the level of awareness about Walk and Bike Lansing! and all that we're trying to accomplish,” Neuner adds. “This city has a lot to be proud of, and a lot to look forward to—we have scores of committed residents working hard to make this city healthier, more sustainable, more livable. We should relish any opportunity to celebrate that kind of work.”
