MSU Junior Launches msuCatalyst Website to Link Students and Successful Alumni

Michigan State University (MSU) junior Megan Gebhart has created a website designed to inspire MSU students and connect them to alumni.

“The point of msuCatalyst is two-pronged,” Gebhart says. “We wanted to talk to alumni and get advice from them, and then create role models for students.”

The site features students, MSU alumni and advice columns. Gebhart features alumni who are at different stages in their careers because they give students different life perspectives.

“We want to say, ‘If this alumni from Michigan State University is doing this, there’s no reason you can’t do it,’” Gebhart says. “They have the same educational background as you — don’t think that if you’re inspired to do something that you can’t do it.”

Gebhart conceptualized msuCatalyst last September and now publishes twice a week. She’s working toward publishing five days a week

“I realize that we need to expand,” she says, adding that she’s starting a recruitment drive to get MSU journalism students writing for the site.

“The message that I really want to get across is that there’s people out there doing extraordinary things and there’s no reason that you, too, as a student, can’t do extraordinary things,” she says.
