REO Town-based Recording Studio Sees 20 Percent Growth from 2007

Lansing's REO Town-based recording studio, Elm Street Recording, saw revenues jump 20 percent in 2008.

Elm Street Recording is a music recording company owned and operated by Ryan Wert, who runs the 600 square foot studio out of the basement of his REO Town home.

“I’ve done more advertising this year than in the past and it's made me almost too busy sometimes," Wert says about the 20 percent increase in revenue.

Roughly 60 percent of Wert’s clients are in the Capital region. He works closely with area rap artists, but he also works with the Holland Symphony and the Grand Rapids Symphony.

“I’ve gotten pretty diverse,” Wert says.

Wert says his REO Town location is perfect because it gives him quick access to all of his clients. He can easily jump on the highway to get to Holland, Kalamazoo or Grand Rapids.

“It’s an hour drive from anywhere,” he says about Lansing. “When I’m picking up clients from far away, it’s never too far.”

Despite his growing client base, Wert says he has no intentions of moving his business out of his home. At least not yet.

“It’s nice to be able to roll out of bed and five minutes later be working,” he says.
