Old Town Lansing is increasingly becoming the place to go for Mid-Michigan’s hottest summer festivals.
What started as a marketing tool for the Old Town Commercial Association to boost it’s operating revenue has turned into a region wide event. This year’s Festival of the Sun and Festival of the Moon attracted hundreds more supporters than in years past.
More than 700 new faces showed up at the Festival of the Moon, bringing this year’s total to 2,200.
“We had a tremendous increase in Festival of the Moon, which is only in its fourth year,” says Jamie Schriner-Hooper with the Old Town Commercial Association. “We’re excited because the Festival of the Moon is attracting a bit of a younger crowd and bringing a whole new demographic to Old Town.”
Schriner-Hooper says all of Old Town’s festivals, including last weekend’s Jazz Fest and the upcoming Oktoberfest, are growing.
“I think people are continuing to discover Old Town and Old Town is becoming more of a destination,” she says. “People who come down to enjoy Old Town businesses are now coming down to enjoy the festivals as well.”
