Michael McCallum’s Lansing-made feature film got good reviews when it premiered in December and was shown in Lansing through February.
Now “Fairview St.,” the black and white noir shot throughout the city, is headed for a new market. It will be on the Celebration Cinema-Rivertown Crossings
Mall screen April 17 to 23, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. each day. The theater is in Grandville, near Grand Rapids.
McCallum,
30, wrote, directed and stars in the film about ex-convict James
Winton's attempts to make it in the real world. Now, he adds “marketer”
to his resume.
“I’m a protective father,” he says of his film. “I’ll be there as
much as possible, doing radio and TV shows, handing out flyers.”
In addition on working to get additional screenings, McCallum has sent the film to 13 festivals, including the Chicago International Film Festival and Telluride, but has not heard back yet. “I definitely intend to send it to the Sundance Film Festival,” he says.
His local indie film company, Rebel Pictures,
also continues to produce films. “Handlebar,” a second feature-length
movie he co-wrote with a friend, has been filmed and now awaits sound
editing. He’ll be hosting a fundraiser June 14, and hopes for a premier
by January.
