Lansing-based
Accident Fund Insurance Company of America expects its Michigan-based workforce to grow by 500 employees, bringing its total Michigan workforce to 1,200. The majority of the jobs will be in stationed in Lansing.
To accommodate this rapid growth, Accident Fund is in the midst of renovating

the old Lansing Board of Water and Light building on Ottawa Street.
The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan subsidiary has been growing steadily since 1994 when it had less than 400 employees. By 2011, it’s expected to have 1,200 Michigan employees.
Accident Fund's Spokeswoman, Micki O’Neil, says the company looked at building its headquarters in several out-of-state sites. However, most of the company’s employees are from Michigan and the state has a great quality of life, so they stayed.
“A lot of our own employees are homegrown Michigan residents,” she says. “We’ve got a lot of good talent.”
In the next 10 years, Accident Fund will also ramp up its sales and marketing efforts in several other states. Accident Fund is currently operating in 43 states.
